Postcard from Paris
I have been working on this painting for sometime now, more accurately… I have left working on this painting for sometime now. Postcard from Paris 6.
Sometimes you need a break from a particular painting, just to step back for awhile and go on with other paintings. And then one day you walk into the studio and you see it with fresh eyes. The painting calls out and says “hey I am ready now.” This is part of the painting process for me the painting has life and I know it sounds weird but is does talk to me.
I have started with the jewellery and the head wear. I decided to make them jade beads with gold. Still working on shaping the gold elements and getting the right pattern and colour. This process I really enjoy as it forces me to look at objects and make decisions on how to paint them. It was hard to make out what the necklace was in the original old black and white photo so imagination plays an important part in achieving the end result. If I am lucky I will get it right first time otherwise I will paint it out and try again.
Once the jewellery is done then I will add black lace work over the red head wrap. This is something not in the original old black and white image as well. As with the colour, these are all thing that I see as I go or ask the painting what it requires.
